Baby girl #2 finally has curtains in her nursery at 8 months old! :)

Last room in the house to get curtains… baby girl #2’s nursery. Just couldn’t find anything I loved (or that was in my price range) until now. My mother-in-law made this amazing fabric into beautiful blackout-lined curtains for us and a little matching pillow. Obsessed!!!

Hello Gorgeous

I LOVE the pops of yellow in this room.  It inspires me so much… now if only we could afford a new sofa, chairs, curtains, throw pillows and a rug (not happening, that stuff is wayyyy too far down on the list of things we “need”).

Sorry we’ve been M.I.A. lately, but with the holiday season it had been very hectic.  But, we’re back and ready to share some more of our home improvement projects!

I have some old photos of the first apartment that we moved into together back in 2005 (and stayed in for two years) that I thought I would share.  It was a one bedroom/one bath apartment that we rented on Long Island (NY) with really nice hardwood floors, white walls that we couldn’t paint, a tiny galley kitchen and noisy neighbors that we could hear through the vents.

Although the couch was a little big for the space (front door is right to the right of it), it worked out great for when people slept over.  It’s extremely comfortable and we actually still have it in our living room now.

I still remember what we went through to put those three Ikea shelves on the wall!  We actually painted the largest shelf white and put it up in the laundry room of our home now and plan on using the other two as well.

The galley kitchen was cute in the beginning, but after two years really started to get on our nerves.

This area served as a dining room, office and storage.  The table was from a family member and the desk and shelving was from Ikea.  Didn’t I tell you the wood floors were gorgeous?

Our only bathroom was… cozy.

Our bedroom was a really good size and we were able to buy a few substantial pieces of furniture, which we still have in our master bedroom now.

Hope you enjoyed the little tour of our first place!  A tour of our 2nd apartment (first in FL) coming soon…

We tested out our new camera this weekend and just wanted to share a few cool shots.  We’re still learning how to use it but we’re having a lot of fun with it:

Say “Cheese”!

This beautiful Nikon D-60 Digital SLR camera should be delivered to us on Monday!  It’s an early Christmas gift from my amazing dad, who called us this morning to tell us about it.  Thanks dad!

Any tips you have or settings you use that you love?  I’m sure we’ll spend all week trying to figure this thing out and taking tons of (hopefully) professional looking pictures of our home.

These are the “before” photos of our guest room:

We don’t have “after” photos yet but we do have a few ideas for this room (which is now basically used for storage).  We will be having family visit in a few weeks so we figure we better get moving on the guest room makeover!  Last night we purchased a mattress from Sears (took advantage of their VIP sale – 50% off plus free shipping) and we are lucky enough to be inheriting the box spring and bed frame from a family member.

We’re going to paint the room Sweet Pear by BM (a pale yellow with green undertones) and add white beadboard to the bottom half of the room with a chair rail:

The bedding will either be a beachy blue stripe:

Or a yellow vintage print:

We already have the VIVAN curtains from Ikea and are thinking about a dark bamboo roman shade (from Target) also for the window:

And since it’s a small room, the only other furniture we want to put in there is a nightstand (or two) with a lamp (or two):

What do you think?  Any other suggestions?
